Ready for Classes

How and where do I get my books?

Textbooks can be bought at the Campus Bookstore and online at eFollet.com as well. The bookstores are independent operations and are not owned by GPC. Your instructors will inform you which books are required when they give you your syllabus on the first day of class. The bookstore offers new books and a limited selection of used books -- which are usually less expensive. At the end of the term, the bookstore may buy your books back, but at a price less than you paid for them.

All information about the bookstore can be found at www.gpc.edu/~acadaff/Schedules/bookstore.php3

What can I expect on my first day of class?

Your first day of class will probably be confusing -- you and a few thousand other new students will be trying to find a place to park and then find the classroom. Our suggestion is to arrive early, so you can find your way.

It would be a good idea to print out your schedule from the student information system and have it handy. Printing out and keeping a campus map with you would also be helpful to finding your way. If you do get lost or have difficulty, locate the student center for assistance, or ask your fellow students for help finding things.

When you do get to class, one of the first things your professor will do is give you a syllabus for the course. The syllabus is a kind of roadmap for the course, outlining expectations, policies, assignments & testing dates. It will also outline the professor's attendance policy (this is VERY important!). Each professor may have different expectations for the students, and you will be expected to follow them.

We only have one great piece of advice as you start: the only stupid question is the one you don't ask!  If you don't understand something, ask. GPC professors are friendly and approachable.
